| Coined by queer, Black feminist scholar Moya Bailey in 2008, misogynoir is a blend of the words “misogyny” (prejudice and discrimination towards women) and “noir” (a French word meaning Black). Misogynoir describes the impact of misogyny and anti-Black racism on Black women. Though coined by Moya Bailey, Trudy (aka @thetrudz) of Gradient Lair also impacted the spread and usage of the term. |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Typically here we have the "dictionary-style entry" at top followed by the context, as you have. A restructure could look something like this:

@almnt This is a really strong framework! I shopped it out to Vivianne and her community for review. Not sure how you feel about adding related terms, but whenever we can, we try to cross-link terms that help people to extend their understanding. For example, white feminism could be an example of exclusionary feminism that contributes to misogynoir and included in the Issues section. |
Yeah, I thought about including related words, but I'm still on the fence. Misogynoir is such a nuanced word as it is—linking to "white feminism" feels oddly like centering it, which feels antithetical to me. I know this is meant to be a dictionary, but I wonder about the ways in the connections and relations dictionaries and their creators make lead to unintended structural and power imbalances. |

@almnt Thanks for your patience! Danialie Fertile provided the below notes. Let me know if you want me to connect you two to discuss at all. Thank you!

Just added an update to the definition! |
Just finished this. I would love any feedback or additions you think could be added. I tend to be verbose and didn't want to get too deep into the history, but I tried to cover critical points.
Let me know what you think.
